Does this year seem hectic or is it just me? I feel like I’m go-go-go from about 7AM until 11PM. It doesn’t leave me a whole lot of time to make a big fancy dinner. Luckily, I have a very accepting family who loves quick and easy dinners.
Hawaiian Haystacks have been a favorite of mine since high school, and now my family enjoys them just as much. They are super quick to whip up, make awesome leftovers and are customizable to fit your flavor preferences.
I teamed up with Kikkoman®, Dole® Pineapples, and Minute® Rice to bring you this kid-friendly, family-favorite recipe. I use all three in my house religiously, and this recipe wouldn’t be possible without their amazing quality products.
Minute Rice is a pantry staple at our house. I would be thrilled to have rice every night, and Minute Rice is the perfect foundation for any wholesome meal, as it’s a complex carbohydrate. It only takes 5 minutes to make perfectly fluffy white rice. Minute White Rice is the original instant rice. It’s enriched, precooked long grain white rice that’s delicious and fluffy.
Also, it comes in three varieties: Whole Grain Brown Rice, White Rice, and Multi-Grain Medley, so there is something for everyone. If you enjoy the nutty, rich flavor of brown rice, you have to try Minute 100% Whole Grain Brown Rice. It’s delicious and is a nutritious option, as it has similar nutritional values as regular long cooking brown rice. And, it only takes 10 minutes to make, which is 1/4 of the time it takes to make regular long cooking brown rice. Lastly, Minute Brown and White rice are gluten free and non-GMO.
Dole Pineapple also offers some nutritious and delicious benefits, including being naturally fat-free, naturally cholesterol free, naturally very low in sodium, and rich in Vitamin-C. You can add Dole Pineapple to just about anything. From main dishes and appetizers, salads and side dishes, and beverages and desserts, their sweet, tangy flavor is certain to compliment your dish. Here are some great starter ideas for adding Dole Pineapple Tidbits to your meals:
- Stirred into vegetable side dishes
- Stirred into rice or pasta salads
- Added to salads and fruit salads
- Used as a topping for desserts
If you are a bit of a soy sauce hoarder like us, you want to check out KikkomanUSA.com, which offers “gateway” recipes so that home cooks can enjoy Asian flavor and flair any night of the week. Kikkoman Traditionally Brewed Soy Sauce is a major flavor enhancer, brings out the “umami” taste, and helps balance and round out flavors.
These Hawaiian Haystacks are so easy, I’m 90% sure I could make them in the dark (probably not safe but you get the idea). First, you prep all of the toppings, meaning you simply drain the olives and pineapple and open the bag of slivered almonds and the container of chow mein noodles. Set the toppings aside. Then you cook the Minute White Rice by simply boiling two cups of water, adding the rice, covering the pan, removing the pan from the stovetop, and letting it sit for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, you add the milk and soup to a medium saucepan over medium heat, bring to a boil, add the chunked chicken and then remove from heat. By this time, your rice should be ready and you are ready to serve dinner.
You don’t have to visit any specialty stores to make this kid-friendly dinner recipe. You can buy everything you need at your local Walmart.
I always love hearing from you guys, so leave me a comment telling me what you are going to add on top of your Hawaiian Haystack, and don’t forget to share this simple weeknight winner with your friends and family on social media.
